Introducing Clariant’s New Rootness Mood+: the Light Mimicking Skin Tone Equalizer

Introducing Clariant’s New Rootness Mood+: the Light Mimicking Skin Tone Equalizer

  • New skincare active ingredient reproduces the natural benefits of light to revitalize skin and enhance mood
  • Boosts Vitamin D through distribution and receptor activation to increase the skin’s natural radiance
  • Sourced from Sanguisorba officinalis, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine
  • Derived from environmentally friendly plant milking technology

Clariant Actives & Natural Origins has launched Rootness Mood+, an advanced new skincare active ingredient that takes advantage of the recognized effects of light and concentrates them in an eco-responsible extract.

Natural light provides essential health benefits, from warding off seasonal affective disorder to improving sleep. In regions with low light levels, populations suffer from the winter blues and low mood. Skin disorders are more prevalent compared to regions with higher light levels. Dramatically, around 75% of the worldwide population is deficient in vitamin D due to excessive time spent indoors.

Rootness Mood+ can enhance sunlight benefits, improving mood and equalizing skin tone. It reactivates the skin’s natural radiance and improves skin complexion through the triggering of skin photoreceptors, the opsins, and can also help increase the effect of vitamin D in the skin by upregulating vitamin D downstream pathways.

“Our modern lifestyles make us forget the need to spend time outdoors and this has direct effects on skin appearance. Rootness Mood+ can buffer against the effects of seasonal variations and reduced sun exposure, cosmetically reproducing light’s benefits on the skin, offering a way to improve skin beauty and complexion,” said Julie Droux, Global Technical Marketing Manager for Actives and Natural Origins.

Rootness Mood+ comes from the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Commonly known as great burnet, the plant develops ‘at the sight of the sun’. Cultivated in aeroponic conditions, thanks to patented and eco-responsible Plant Milking technology, this special new active ingredient is also highly sustainable.

Lack of light: immediate impact on skin sense.

From breakthrough new launches to the latest advancements in hair care and skin health, meet Solvay at in-cosmetics to discover how to embrace sustainability without compromising on performance.

Solvay, a leader in naturally derived ingredients for beauty care formulations, has announced a full range of functional and sustainable ingredients to be highlighted at the upcoming in-cosmetics Global 2023 trade fair in Barcelona from March 28 to 30. Addressing beauty care creators from around the world, Solvay will showcase an extensive portfolio of innovative hair and skin care ingredients and formulations on display at Booth V10. In addition, Solvay’s beauty experts will present during a technical seminar its latest cleansing solutions promoting wellness and hold a sustainability conference on fermentation as a technology for a sustainable future.

“As the industry leader in natural and naturally derived polymers and specialty surfactants, we support our customers in the beauty care industry with extensive scientific, formulation and application expertise,” says Jean-Guy Le Helloco, Global Vice President, Home & Personal Care, at Solvay. “Our portfolio helps formulators create multi-sensory and multi-functional products designed to improve consumer experience, wellness and health while featuring the lowest environmental footprint.”

The foremost trend driving the beauty industry is sustainability, which Solvay addresses with a wide range of biodegradable, bio-based, ethically sourced and renewable, low-carbon footprint ingredients and formulation solutions as highlighted in its Beauty for the Planet pledge.

On the hair care front, the company’s portfolio aligns with today’s lifestyles and communities needs, such as addressing textured hair, extending hair health to scalp care and enabling the ‘skinification’ of hair care with skin care inspired ingredients. On the other hand, Solvay’s innovative skin health and cleansing solutions address functional health and mental and emotional wellness, while responding to the solid-format trend to minimize waste and the overall product footprint with ‘Bring your Own’ (ByO) water cleanser concepts.

The company’s exhibit at in-cosmetics 2023 will be spearheaded by the recently launched Polycare Heat Therapy, a new naturally-derived active ingredient that protects hair from thermal damage caused by high-heat devices such as flat or curling irons and hair dryers . The new product complements Solvay’s existing performance ingredients for hair health, including Polycare Split Therapy for repair of long and damaged hair, and Polycare Frizz Therapy for discipline and durable shape of straight and curly hair.

Another focus at Solvay’s booth will be mild and eco-friendly cleansing solutions, from ultra-low salt surfactants for sensitive skin to taurates and sulfosuccinates for sulfate-free formulations, as well as our new 100% bio-based and biodegradable Mirasoft SL glycolipid biosurfactants manufactured through a cost-efficient fermentation process. This range includes Mirasoft SL A60 and Mirasoft SL L60, recently certified as “Microbiome-friendly” by MyMicrobiome. This certification was also granted for Dermalcare LIA MB, a circular and silicone alternative.

Meet Solvay’s beauty care team at Booth V10 during in-cosmetics 2023 to discuss the benefits that these and other innovative ingredients can deliver in your formulations, and don’t miss the company’s live conferences at the show:

On March 28 in Theater 3 from 10:35 to 11:05 am, Caroline Mabille, Global Marketing Manager for Beauty Cleansing Solutions, will hold a seminar on ‘Cleansing solutions that promote consumer and environmental wellness’,

Westfalia: Empowerment Through Education

Westfalia: Empowerment Through Education

Westfalia Fruit, the leading multinational supplier of avocados and a range of fresh vegetables and fruit, is expanding its industry leading focus on education and wellbeing in Africa, Latin America and beyond.

Education is a powerful tool that changes lives and the world over. The legacy of Westfalia’s iconic founder, Dr. Hans Merensky, is the Foundation he created to provide support for students to study a range of subjects, with a focus on agriculture-related disciplines. In line with its support of the UN’s Global Goals, Westfalia continues to bring this vision to life with programmes run by the company and its partners.

Schooling in South Africa

In the past three years in South Africa, for example, Westfalia has awarded 45 bursaries, welcomed 28 in-service participants and 45 hosted learners, and enrolled more than 100 candidates in apprenticeship and learnership programmes, many of whom were unemployed. 24 individuals completed graduate development programmes and at least six former participants have been promoted to leadership roles within the company.

One candidate, who joined Westfalia as an intern on the Graduate Development Programme is Tshepang Mahloane based in South Africa, Tshepang adds “I benefited significantly from the graduate development programme and was exposed to various other leadership and management courses. It was also helpful to tap into the experience and wisdom of other team members from diverse backgrounds”. Tshepang’s career at Westfalia continues to develop, with his most recent promotion to Factory Manager.

Westfalia’s resource centre in South Africa.

Westfalia also has a focus on empowering people living with disabilities. Ten learners have been enrolled in a program aimed at developing and enhancing their agricultural skills, including plant production leadership. Overall, more than 150 young people have benefitted from work based graduate schemes and internship programmes successfully embarking on careers in fields including medicine, agriculture, education and finance.

Another key initiative is focused on early childhood development. For almost 20 years, centres have been established in both the Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces aimed at creating a safe environment for children while their parents are at work. The positive impact is also a benefit to the local community, with 30% of the children attending from local villages. The centres also help improve local food security and importantly, teach young children English and other foundation skills, giving them a head start once they start school. More than 1,000 children and 600 families have benefitted from the program since 2006. In 2022 the Limpopo centre achieved accreditation to teach the first year primary school syllabus. Over the next few years the education team will be building on that success to offer additional years education. In a remote, agricultural area such as Tzaneen accessible education for the local community and child care is often a challenge.

School age children are also assisted with after school clubs where they have library and internet access, learn to use computers and receive homework help. Counselling services are also available for young people to support their overall wellbeing and career days held for students considering their career choices.

Lifelong learning in Latin America

Westfalia also runs education programs across Latin America to help participants reach their full potential.

In Chile, as part of the ‘Sembrando Futuro – Seeding project’ the company is working with several schools focussing on the environment and education. Projects include the creation of vegetable gardens, composting areas and greenhouses with an emphasis on growing crops responsibly and sustainably.

In both Chile and Colombia, the company supports colleagues who have been unable to complete their school education by supporting them to study over a year, creating more opportunities for them and their families as they are able to develop their employment prospects.

“To this day individuals across the globe continue to benefit from our founder, Dr Merensky’s, strong ethic of ‘giving back’ – the legacy he crafted in making education and development accessible for employees and communities alike. Schools, universities, libraries and charities were among the grateful beneficiaries of his generosity, and we are proud to be continuing this tradition,” said Hans Eben CEO, South America, Westfalia Fruit Group.

ClearCorrect Launches Suite of New Products and Innovations Ahead of International Dental Show

ClearCorrect Launches Suite of New Products and Innovations Ahead of International Dental Show

  • Orthodontic brand announces seven new solutions designed to support doctors treating both mild and complex cases.
  • Acquisition of ClearCorrect by Straumann Group in 2017 has turbocharged the company’s software and product development pipeline.
  • International Dental Show runs from March 14-18 and is acknowledged as the leading trade fair for the dental community.

ClearCorrect, the Straumann Group’s flagship orthodontic brand and provider of orthodontic products and solutions, has launched an array of new innovations that will be on display at the International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne, Germany.

The company has released a total of seven new products and features designed to assist doctors in their treatment of patients – in particular, the innovations will help them to treat a range of cases, from mild to complex, through new aligner customization options, an improved and empowering digital workflow, and increased support and education.

“We are looking forward to presenting in person at IDS,” commented Camila Finzi, EVP and Head of the Orthodontic Business Unit. “Due to the pandemic, it’s been four years since we last attended, and while those years were difficult for everyone, we spent our time enhancing our technologies, our products, and our user experience to enable doctors to improve their practice efficiencies and patient outcomes.”

ClearCorrect has been part of the Straumann Group since the global dental enterprise acquired it in 2017, consolidating its position as a leader in clear aligner manufacturing and supplier to doctors all around the world.

At IDS, the company will exhibit its latest offerings. These include:

Pontics, bars, and guides

Several features have been developed in order to deliver an enhanced end-to-end workflow that allows doctors to more effectively treat patients who have missing or erupting teeth.

Such features include new, optimized shapes for a more aesthetic appearance and the option to resize features as space increases and decreases for convenience. There is also the flexibility to plan and visualize these features at any step in the process.

IOS integrations

New digital workflows and enhancements have been made to optimize integrations between ClearCorrect and two IOS platforms.

Virtuo Vivo: New updates of the Virtuo Vivo software will allow for a significantly faster scan for ClearCorrect, increasing overall workflow efficiency.
3Shape Unite: Includes a new embedded retainer case submission and embedded revision submission workflows.

Mobile app

Available on Apple and Android devices, the ClearCorrect Sync mobile application enables providers to create new cases, take and edit patient photos, and instantly upload them to the Doctor Portal. Fronted by a simple and intuitive interface, it helps to streamline workflows and provide a more efficient service to customers.

Doctor Portal upgrades: Dynamic Prescription Form

Numerous management enhancements have been made in the Doctor Portal, along with the Dynamic Prescription Form in order to be more intuitive for practitioners. These upgrades include more customization options, guided prescription entry with dynamic display of options based on a range of factors (case complexity, patient dental conditions, doctor preferences), and new drag and drop photo categorization tools for easy optimization of records.

ClearPilot 6.0

A series of upgrades have been made to the ClearPilot treatment viewer software, including a new and more intuitive interface that has been developed in response to doctors’ feedback. Key features of the interface include improved 3D model rendering, an expanded and simplified viewing area, and improved treatment timeline to enable visual cues on steps when appointments are needed.

ClearPilot 6.0 also includes direct collision and space editing with automated adjacent tooth adjustments and point-to-point measurement tools that provide arch and tooth dimension estimates.

Collaborator Suite: new efficiencies

Customers can now order external treatment planning services (TPS) directly from ClearCorrect global TPS partners, who collaborate with ClearCorrect technicians to develop optimal treatment setups – this gives doctors the confidence to spend more time with patients as opposed to treatment planning.

Ortho Campus and Clinic App

ClearCorrect will also be displaying its Ortho Campus education platform at IDS. This comprises a selection of online orthodontic tools and educational resources in eight different languages.

The Ortho Campus portal (Ortho Classroom) has been designed to boost knowledge across orthodontic practices and their employees. It also includes a Case Gallery of real-world examples where patients have been successfully treated with ClearCorrect.

Also included in Ortho Campus is the ClearCorrect Clinic App: an in-office patient education tool available in 11 languages. For clinicians and staff who are looking for help with patient conversion, the Clinic App includes patient-friendly talk-tracks on the consequences of various malocclusions, the overall benefits of clear aligners, and aids in starting and guiding conversations with patients about their oral health and how ClearCorrect can help.

Longer Service Life at High Temperatures: “Best in Class” Stabilisation of Aliphatic Polyamides

Longer Service Life at High Temperatures: “Best in Class” Stabilisation of Aliphatic Polyamides

BRUGGOLEN TP-H1804 is a new, highly effective heat stabiliser from Brüggemann for use with aliphatic polyamides at continuous service temperatures between 160 °C and 190 °C. It complements BRUGGOLEN TP-H1805, which stabilises reinforced polyamides at temperatures above 200 °C. The masterbatch, supplied in granular form, can be dosed very precisely, and thus in a very targeted manner.

As “best in class”, BRUGGOLEN TP-H1804 significantly outperforms previously available copper salt-based stabilisers in terms of maintaining mechanical properties.
For example, the tensile strength of a glass fibre reinforced PA6.6 with the addition of 5 % is still over 50 % of the initial value after 5,000 hours of heat ageing at 190 °C; the un-stabilised material barely reaches this limit at 1,000 hours. At 170 °C, thanks to its outstanding efficiency, even 2.4 % is sufficient to exceed the 5,000-hour mark. Thus, BRUGGOLEN TP-H1804 is a product which, through its flexible dosing capability, allows moulded component service life to be adapted to expected thermal loads.
