Man Lion’s City E is International Bus of the Year 2023

Man Lion’s City E is International Bus of the Year 2023

In May, the Bus Euro Test took place in the Irish city of Limerick, where the members of the international jury for electing the bus of the year, consisting of 23 journalists from all over Europe, tested the candidates for this prestigious title.

This year it was the turn of city buses, and the criteria required that they are electrically driven. Five candidates –electric city buses – took part in the test: Higer Azure, Karsan eATA, Man Lion’s City E, Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and Volvo BZL Electric with body from MCV. After several days of intensive checks, test drives, measurements, and expert discussion, the jury voted for the winner – the international bus of the year 2023 is the Man Lion’s City E.

Man Lion’s City E
The Bavarian city bus is still among the newer ones on the market, which is evident both in its modern exterior and in the passenger compartment, which is considered one of the best. The Germans have managed to combine very well all the forms of drive that they offer, without the external appearance suffering because of this – the bus is visually refined in every version. Even when we look at the driver’s workplace, it deserves an excellent rating, the materials used are of good quality, the driver can adjust the steering wheel well along with the adjustable dashboard, and the gauges are also very clear and large.
Man is equipped with six battery packs, all of them are mounted on the roof of the bus, and with 480 kilowatts, it offered the highest capacity of all the tested buses. As a result, tests show that it is possible to drive more than five hundred kilometres with it without intermediate charging, and thus it can provide the daily needs of most carriers. For batteries, they offer two usage strategies, one is adapted to the greatest possible range, and the other is adapted to achieve the longest possible battery life.
Noise measurements in the passenger compartment showed that the Man was the quietest when driving, and the engineers managed to set the suspension very well so that the mass of the batteries, which are all mounted on the roof, is not felt while driving. The adjustment of the electric motor is also good, the acceleration is smooth and comfortable for the passengers, and the driver can adjust the regeneration levels with the steering wheel lever.

»Bus of the Year 2023 is a bus that applies to bus passenger for today and tomorrow. It is a modern looking vehicle and with an environmentally friendly driveline. Inside the bright colours make you feel welcome. You get the feeling of space, and calm. Just sit down and enjoy the ride,« said Tom Terjesen, the President of the
International Bus & Coach of the Year jury. He continues: »The winner has also one of the best working space on the marked. To sit behind the steering wheel in this bus, you are the big boss. You have a corner office with excellent view, and very few blind spots. You can feel safe with several safety build in solution and a lot of
preventive electronic safety equipment.«

DuPont Expands Its Industry-Leading Portfolio of Solutions for EIS Applications

DuPont Expands Its Industry-Leading Portfolio of Solutions for EIS Applications

New grades of non-halogenated offerings enable manufacturers of electrical insulation components to meet important new Class F EIS – CRZ200 standard

In advance of the upcoming K 2022, DuPont Mobility & Materials announced it has been awarded UL certification for the latest EIS Class F–CRZ200 standard. In CRZ200, there are four non-halogen, flame retardant (NH-FR) materials, including two Zytel polyamide grades, as well as one Crastin PBT and one Rynite polyester solution. The results have been published at the UL iQ website.

These new NH-FR grades offer manufacturers of Electrical Insulation Systems (EIS) important new options to manufacture components such as coil forms, bobbins, relays, and motors. Included in the certification are two new materials, Zytel HTNFR42G45NHSR and Rynite FR533NH, which have proven to be successful in replacing thermosets in coil forms, a new application for these product families.

“We are proud that our new non-halogen, flame-retardant solutions meet UL Class F EIS – CRZ200 requirements. We invest significant effort and time in testing our materials, for the benefit of our customers,” said Miles Wang, APAC application development director, DuPont Mobility & Materials. “The designation helps our customers save time and expense when they develop new products.”

EIS classes are based on the maximum hot spot in an electrical system. The Class F designation means these solutions all perform at temperatures up to 155 °C, making them an excellent selection for many critical EIS components. The UL certification reduces risk to manufacturers because they know these solutions have passed rigorous testing for safety and performance at a certified third-party lab.

Electrical and electronics (E & E) manufacturers reduce risk by specifying solutions that meet EIS standards. DuPont works with other EIM (electrical insulation material) suppliers to provide combinations of materials to UL to assemble, test, and certify as qualified for EIS. “We estimate that our investment in testing and certifications helps our customers save at least $100,000 in testing fees and two years’ time when launching new products,” adds Miles Wang.

The DuPont portfolio for the E&E industry includes a broad range of materials based on various resins including PBT, PET, and polyamides. The company has developed more than 400 solutions that meet EIS standards for E & E parts. DuPont’s customers include brand owners and their suppliers who mold parts for motors, switches and relays, coil forms & transformers, solenoids, PCB terminal blocks, and more.

DuPont Mobility & Materials group invites visitors to K 2022 to their exhibit area in Hall 6, Stand C43 to see the latest in sustainable and transformative materials.

New Dupont Crastin PBT Solutions Excellent for Laser Welding, With Improved Hydrolysis Resistance

New Dupont Crastin PBT Solutions Excellent for Laser Welding, With Improved Hydrolysis Resistance

Innovative formulations offer significantly improved levels of performance for automotive sensors, connectors, and other sensitive applications

DuPont Mobility & Materials will feature new Crastin PBT high laser transmission solutions that enable automotive component manufacturers to speed the production and improve the performance of connectors, sensors, ADAS systems, and other sensitive electrical components.

“Now commercially available, DuPont offers a well-rounded portfolio of new Crastin PBT laser welding solutions. These meet the industry’s need for materials optimized for rapid laser welding, while also offering significantly improved levels of hydrolysis resistance and dimensional stability,” commented Kelvin Tseng, automotive commercial director, DuPont Mobility & Materials.

Laser welding is widely used as the joining technology of choice for sensitive and miniature applications in the utomotive and electronic industries. Because this process does not heat or vibrate the components, it helps prevent damage to internal precision components. Laser welding does not blemish the surface of a part, and ensures a durable connection. In addition, laser welding equipment has advanced to allow for very short cycle times.

Three new Crastin solutions have been developed to offer manufacturers a flexible choice between level of laser ransmission, low warpage, and hydrolysis and chemical resistance. For example, one of the new grades offers up to a 200+% improvement in laser transmission versus the industry benchmark, which enables exceptionally good bonding at rapid cycle times. Another offers improvement in hydrolysis resistance even as it also supports exceptional laser transmission. The third new solution offers superior low-warpage performance coupled with excellent laser transmission, making it an ideal choice for sensors and electronic housings that require high standards of dimensional stability. It too offers the necessary performance in hydrolysis resistance.

“Until now, conventional solutions for laser welding have low levels of hydrolysis resistance,” adds Miles Wang, application development director, DuPont Mobility & Materials. “Our new solutions improve laser transmission as well as other properties such as hydrolysis resistance. For our customers, this will create value in both manufacturing and product performance.”

These new Crastin PBT laser welding solutions are in addition to DuPont Zytel polyamide laser welding solutions, providing customers solutions for efficient molding and joining across a wide range of applications.
