Clariant Launches ‘The Joyologist’ Concept With Inspiring Formulations to Brighten Your Skin and Mood

Clariant Launches ‘The Joyologist’ Concept With Inspiring Formulations to Brighten Your Skin and Mood

  • “Feel-Good Magic Stick” and “Forget-It-All Relaxing Mask”, two natural formulations under Clariant’s new “The Joyologist” concept
  • Products complement daily routine, bringing joy to the skin and mood
  • New formulations contain Clariant’s exciting active ingredients – Rootness Mood+ and Beracare CBA
  • The Joyologist helps consumers with natural solutions that can enhance wellness and happiness

Today, the search for holistic wellness is flourishing as consumers focus on mental health and solutions that can help inspire them to relax and feel happy. As part of this growing trend, Clariant Actives and Natural Origins has created two formulations to promote inner wellness.

The Feel-Good Magic Stick and Forget-It-All Relaxing Mask are formulations developed as part of Clariant’s new “The Joyologist” concept, focused on delivering a multi-sensory experience to consumers for mood enhancement and relaxation. Both formulations complement a daily routine.

“Based on a Beautystreams report titled Joyology 2021-2026, consumers believe that beauty care can help them feel happier and more confident. Among 29 potential sources of happiness measured, 55% of people across the world said they are most likely to derive “the greatest happiness” from health and physical wellbeing. This inner wellness can further increase if personal care products are also aligned with their concerns for safety and the conservation of nature,” said Flávia Igreja, Global Marketing and Formulation Manager for Actives and Natural Origins.

The “Feel-Good Magic Stick” is a water-based facial skin stick that provides a relaxing, fresh effect at any moment of the day for a well-being push. Aqueous gels provide cooling sensations to the skin thanks to their water-based formulation and the gel in the “Feel-Good Magic Stick” has a lightweight, non-greasy texture that absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and hydrated.

The formulation is based on Clariant’s new active ingredient Rootness Mood+ that reproduces the natural benefits of light to revitalize the skin and enhance the mood. Sourced from Sanguisorba officinalis, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine, it is derived from environmentally friendly plant-milking technology.

As an ideal complement to the Feel-Good Magic Stick, the “Forget-It-All Relaxing Mask” is applied to the skin at the end of the day. Offered in a multi-sensorial relaxation set, which includes a scented candle and relaxing playlist, the facial care mask has a soft texture that leaves skin feeling relaxed and soothed.

Its key active ingredient is Beracare CBA, a complex blend in which copaiba oil’s tremendous potential is boosted by passion fruit oil. Beracare CBA, which is sourced responsibly from renewable resources in the Amazon, offers an alternative to Cannabidiol (CBD), soothing sensitive skin by targeting the skin’s endocannabinoid system.

“At Milliken, we see the impact sustainability can have on our communities now and in the future,” says Cindy Boiter, president of Milliken’s Chemical Business. “That’s why we’re dedicated to being a partner to the industry on this journey.”

Milliken’s technology-driven additive portfolio will be on full display at Interpack 2023 (Hall 10/Stand C32) in Düsseldorf from 4-10 May. Attendees can stop by throughout the show to preview Milliken’s additive solutions and discuss potential product collaborations.

Hyperform HPN performance additives for recycled polypropylene.

“We aim to provide innovative solutions that help our customers achieve their sustainability objectives,” adds Wim Van De Velde, Global Vice President, Plastic Additives for Milliken. “Interpack 2023 offers attendees time to preview our portfolio, explore opportunities to collaborate, experience Techtalks and interact with our product offerings.”

A broad portfolio

Milliken specializes in optimizing the performance of polypropylene (PP) and recycled polypropylene (rPP), helping to make durable, lightweight resins a viable alternative to other, less-sustainable materials.

PureCycle’s PureFive HPP15S ultra-pure recycled resin.

  • DeltaMax performance modifiers and DeltaFlow viscosity modifiers improve key aspects of PP impact copolymers and recycled PP. DeltaMax enhances the physical and flow properties of rPP, thereby enabling the use of more recycled content while also allowing converters to save energy. DeltaFlow, meanwhile, helps recyclers increase the melt flow rate of pre- and post-consumer rPP, thereby reducing energy use and advancing circularity.
  • Hyperform HPN additives help maximize the stiffness of pre- and post-consumer rPP without sacrificing impact. At the same time, Hyperform HPN additives help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during production, enabling users to display the much-desired UL eco-label on thin-wall injection molded products.
  • Millad NX 8000 ECO clarifying agent helps produce the durable, fully transparent, highly recyclable material known as NX UltraClear PP. Injection molders using the material can save both energy and money due to lower processing temperatures and faster cycle times than resin formulated using traditional clarifiers. This, in turn, boosts productivity and reduces carbon emissions, helping converters lower their overall carbon footprint while displaying the UL eco-label on their finished parts.
Millad NX 8000 ECO clarifying agent for polypropylene.

Milliken’s portfolio extends beyond polypropylene innovations. For example, UltraGuard Solutions increase barrier properties in polyethylene (PE), allowing converters to downgauge and enabling the use of more recyclable, mono-material PE package constructions.

Interpack attendees can also preview Milliken innovation in action by participating in one of its planned TechTalks during the expo.

Partnership & collaboration

Milliken’s commitment to a sustainable future for the packaging industry is seen outside its product innovations as well. In addition to partnering with PureCycle, Milliken participates in various industry initiatives, including:

  • Achieving a Gold Rating on its 2022 EcoVadis sustainability assessment;
  • Creating approved, science-based short- and long-term net-zero targets as informed by the U.N.-backed Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI); and
  • Participating in the HolyGrail 2.0 digital watermarks initiative to enhance recycling.

Covestro Shows the Wonder of Materials Research in the ‘Wonder Matter(s)’ Exhibition

Covestro Shows the Wonder of Materials Research in the ‘Wonder Matter(s)’ Exhibition

The company presents three special installations based on the inherent properties of plastics

Making the impossible possible, creating a forest in the heart of Milan, housing an unforgettable memory: these and many other wonders will be staged by Covestro, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of polymer materials and raw materials used in them, during the Wonder Matter(s) exhibition as part of Milan Design Week 2023.

The exhibition will be hosted at Superstudio Più by Materially, a consultancy firm that helps companies develop and spread innovation and sustainability based on materials. Wonder Matter(s) aims to explore wonder through a sensory, exploratory and narrative journey, while deepening the qualities of materials with competence, rationality and concreteness.

The Impossible

In the playground designed by Materially, the centerpiece of Wonder Matter(s), Covestro will present “The Impossible” installation dedicated to Arfinio. This revolutionary material is the result of a new technology that combines high-performance liquid polymers and unique minerals with reaction-based injection molding. It is a lightweight and durable solid surface material that allows complex projects to be completed easily and quickly in a single operation, and can be easily repaired and recycled.

Arfinio combines the advantages of aliphatic polyurethane chemistry with those of reaction injection molding and solid surfaces: a combination that was considered unfeasible for decades, but is now a reality thanks to Covestro and its partner Arcesso Dynamics, resulting in Wonder Matter(s). The exhibition shows in practical terms what it means today to invent and give shape to something that did not exist before: The Impossible.

Unexpected Green Forest

Unexpected Green Forest is the name of Covestro’s exhibition dedicated to the unique polycarbonates manufactured with renewable raw materials. This material surprisingly creates a real forest within Wonder Matter(S) in which the plastic proves to be circular, recyclable and durable. It is Makrolon RE, a renewable polycarbonate made with raw materials derived from organic waste rather than fossil fuels. Thanks to this origin and its inherent properties, the plastic supports sustainability goals and offers enormous creative possibilities in terms of color, shape and decoration, allowing the creation of monomaterial or modular, reusable and long-lasting objects and projects.

A Selfie Garden

Selfie Garden, the playful installation by Covestro and its thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), offers a memorable backdrop for a souvenir photo. TPU from Covestro has a broad performance spectrum, which includes a high level of flexibility over а wide array of temperatures. It also covers an extensive structural range, from hard and rigid, to soft and elastic, making it an excellent material for single-material design. Its high degree of adaptability and multiple application opportunities are the inspiration for this imaginary garden – ideal for framing a lasting memory at Milan Design Week.

Bull’s Eye: Customers Thrilled with Milestone Machine

Bull’s Eye: Customers Thrilled with Milestone Machine

  • Survey on the occasion of the 2023 Anniversary Days: Hybrid Allrounder 470 H meets customer requirements
  • Success story: 96 per cent of respondents rate milestone machine as extremely attractive
  • New machine technology: A sought-after alternative to hydraulic and electric injection moulding machines

To mark the anniversary of “100 years of the Hehl family company”, the hybrid Allrounder 470 H with its fascinating machine technology celebrated its premiere. In a representative survey conducted at the Anniversary Days in March 2023, 96 per cent of more than 300 respondents rated the new machine as extremely attractive. This demonstrates that the milestone machine has the potential to become a success story.

Whichever responses you look at, all the statements about the new 470 H hybrid Allrounders are very positive. Gerhard Böhm, Managing Director Sales and Service at Arburg, puts it in a nutshell: “Our plans with this interesting machine technology were clearly confirmed by the visitors to the Anniversary Days, showing that we have succeeded in tapping into contemporary trends and concerns. What we are offering people with our milestone machine is exactly what they want and need in their production. The hybrid Allrounder 470 H machines save energy, conserve resources, and are efficient in production, user-friendly and reliable at the same time. This generates a high level of acceptance among our users. And again, that’s exactly what we intended.”

Energy and production-efficient hybrid machine

Compared to a similar hydraulic machine, the energy footprint of the new Allrounder 470 H is up to 50 per cent better, and depending on the application, up to 12,000 kilograms of CO2 can be saved each year. The new oil management concept helps further conserve resources, as it requires around 35 per cent less oil. Machine waste heat is used to preheat the oil. In addition, the required cooling water capacity is also between 50 and 70 per cent lower. This is supplemented by flow splitting for simultaneous movements of hydraulic secondary axes and the extended use of the Arburg servo hydraulic system. A reduction in the dry cycle time of up to 33 per cent results in significantly greater production efficiency.

The most important results of the survey

The fact that the vast majority of respondents see the new hybrid machines as the perfect alternative to hydraulic and also electric injection moulding machines is confirmed impressively by the outstanding survey results. For 96 per cent, the new Allrounder 470 H machines are a suitable replacement for hydraulic machines, while 95 per cent see them as a suitable replacement for electric machines. 96 per cent of respondents consider the anniversary Allrounders to be attractive machines. No less than 85 per cent of them were immediately convinced that the new hybrid Allrounders would suit their respective operational application spectrum, and 92 per cent agreed that the price/performance ratio was very good. Whether the Allrounder 470 H was also interesting for their companies was spontaneously answered by 83 per cent with “Yes”.

The combination does the trick

In detailed discussions with many customers during the Anniversary Days in Lossburg, Gerhard Böhm learned about another important criterion for the successful launch of the milestone machines: “On the one hand, the combination of electric clamping unit and hydraulic injection unit significantly reduces the acquisition and operating costs as well as the carbon footprint; on the other hand, most users are already familiar with the hydraulic injection unit and also feel comfortable with it.” In addition, the practical grading in the performance variants “Comfort”, “Premium” and “Ultimate”, as well as the different sizes of the injection units and the numerous options available allow the new Allrounder 470 H to be precisely adapted to the respective customer requirements. As Gerhard Böhm summarises: “The market is currently demanding precisely the technology that we can offer with our new hybrid Allrounders. This means that we can look to the future with optimism.” The milestone machine marks the start of a completely new generation of machines from Arburg – particularly interesting for customers who are looking for an energy-saving and economical alternative to hydraulic or electric machines, but at the same time want to benefit from the proven advantages of both worlds.
